As a child, there was nothing to do but walk outside or draw pictures. That’s what the author, Ragnar, said. He was born and raised in a small village in northern Sweden with a population of about 200 people. "Sleeping Village: 眠る村" is an art book born from the imagination nurtured between "wandering around the village" and "drawing until dawn."

Behind the facade of the big house to the left of the train station, after the bigger asphalt road that goes through the little neighborhood, that's where the houses are slightly bigger and newer than in the little harbour.

写真：ラグナール・ペルソン、デザイン：宮川隆外を歩くか、絵を描くかしか子どもの頃することがなかった。そう著者のラグナールは言っていました。スウェーデン北部の人口200人くらいの小さな村に生まれ育ったそうです。『Sleeping Village：眠る村』はまさに、「村を歩きまわる」ことと「絵を描きあかす」こと、この二つのあいだで育まれた想像力が生みだした画集です。
はるか北の地、人が少なく自然が主のような土地では、空間のひろがりがやたら大きくて、木々がつくる影、空をおおう雲、鳥がたてる羽音さえ、奇妙な想像をかきたてたり、夢のなかに人を引きいれる力をもつのかもしれません。
この画集には、ラグナールが撮った写真を集めた小さなブックレットがついています。写真の中に広がる世界は絵と響きあって双子のようです。そして村についてのラグナールのテキスト、友だちのミレーネが寄せてくれた小さな物語を読むことができます（英語、日本語訳）。
